Former Governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim, narrowly escaped being killed on Monday evening by gunmen at Oriagu in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State
According to multiple media reports, the convoy of Ohakim, a one term governor of Imo State, was attacked by heavily armed gunmen who killed four of his police security escorts.
The gunmen launched the attack on Ohakim’s convoy at Oriagu.
Ohakim who escaped by the whiskers had his backup vehicle bombed, leading to the death of the four policemen in his convoy.
It was gathered that Ohakim was with two of his children when the gunmen struck.
The gunmen, it was further gathered, attempted to block the ex-governor’s vehicle, but for the brevity of the driver of the ex-governor who maneuvered the wheels and escaped.

The reports indicated that the nature of the attack showed that Ohakim was the main target but for his driver who was smart enough to beat them because they were driving to block him.
According to the reports, disappointed that Ohakim had escaped, they blocked his backup vehicle and burnt it with the four policemen inside.
