The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed a former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, as acting chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees.
The appointment followed the resignation of Walid Jibrin.
The announcement was made at a meeting of the PDP BoT which was held on Thursday at the opposition party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
Wabara, 74, was a senator for two consecutive terms representing Abia South from 1999 to 2007. He was Senate President between June 2003 and April 2005.
The development is part of the fallout of the crisis rocking the party due to what many perceive as regional lopsidedness.

The party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is from Adamawa (North-East), the national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, is from Benue (North-Central); and Jibrin is a native of Nasarawa (North-Central).
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers is leading the charge for the resignation of Ayu. His allies include Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State and Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State.
A former PDP Deputy National Chairman, Bode George, and other southern members of the party have also demanded Ayu’s resignation but the former senator maintains that he won’t resign.
