Super Eagles will on Thursday play Cote d’Ivoire in their second group game of the AFCON tournament

The Super Eagles of Nigeria were held to a 1-1 draw by Equatorial Guinea in an African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group A game played at the Alassanne Quattara Stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan on Sunday.
Prior to the match, the Nzalang Nacional had not lost in their last ten games, winning five and drawing another five of the last 10 encounters.
They last tasted defeat on September 3, 2022, when they lost 2-0 to the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.
However, while the Super Eagles began Sunday’s encounter the brighter of the two sides, it was Equatorial Guinea who took the lead in the 36th minute when Jose Machin found Ivan Salvador, who finished the effort.

Nigeria responded two minutes later through Victor Osimhen, who headed home a cross from Ademola Lookman to make it 1-1.
The three time AFCON winners continued to dominate the game but Equatorial Guinea held on to earn a draw.
Nigeria after earning just a point in the game will now focus on their second group game against Cote d’Ivoire on Thursday.
