BREAKING: Egbetokun releases journalist Daniel Ojukwu 10 days after his unlawful incarceration

Daniel Ojukwu, a journalist with Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), has been released from detention by Inspector General Police Kayode Egbetokun whom a senior police officer said yesterday is the only person who could order his release.
The release of Ojukwu, who was abducted in Lagos on May 1 by the IGP Intelligence Response Team, was announced this afternoon on the website of FIJ.
He regained freedom a day after Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), journalists, and other stakeholders protested at police headquarters in Abuja over his incarceration without court arraignment, a violation of the law.
Egbetokun, a ‘Tinubu boy’, has been receiving more bad press since yesterday for locking up a journalist without court trial.
Ojukwu’s ordeal emanated from his stories about corruption in the administration of Bola Tinubu, spilling over from that of his predecessor Muhammadu Buhari, both of who are members of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
One of the stories links Egbetokun to an influential smuggler in the South West who allegedly enjoys protection from the IGP.
The other is on Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, a ‘Tinubu woman’ who served in the administration of Buhari and allegedly paid N147.1 million to an account traced to Enseno Global Ventures, a restaurant based in Abuja, for the construction of classrooms. The contract was never executed, according to the report.
FIJ founder Fisayo Soyombo has insisted the investigation is a representation of facts, and not mere allegations as the police are saying and erroneously citing violation of the Cybercrime Act that Ojukwu is being accused of.
This is breaking news. Details later ….
