The Department of State Services (DSS) has blocked all access to the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, according to a statement by his legal team.

Nnamdi Kanu had literally forced Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja to recuse herself from his trial when he said: “My lord, I have no confidence in this court anymore and I ask you to recuse yourself because you did not abide by the decision of the Supreme Court.

“I can understand it if the DSS refuses to obey a court order, but for this court to refuse to obey an order of the Supreme Court is regrettable.

“I am asking you to recuse yourself from this case,” Kanu stated.

The statement of Nnamdi Kanu’s legal team, signed by Aloy Ejimakor on behalf of the legal team, said the action of the DSS appears to be a retaliation against the IPOB leader over his revolt against Justice Binta Nyako from continuing presiding over his case.

The statement reads: “Today, in violation of subsisting court orders and the Constitution, the DSS blocked the Legal Team of MAZI NNAMDI KANU from meeting with him at the detention facility. It appears that the DSS has cancelled all future visitations to #MNK as retaliation against #MNK for chasing away Justice Binta Nyako from the case and causing her embarrassment.

“What this means is that the DSS, acting on behalf of the federal government of Nigeria, has unlawfully isolated #MNK from his Lawyers, thus making his solitary confinement absolute. I don’t know when next, if ever, it may be possible to see #MNK again.”
