BREAKING: Diri sworn in as Bayelsa Gov, police impose dusk to dawn curfew

Senator Douye Diri has been sworn in as the governor of Bayelsa State.

He succeeds Seriake Dickson whose second term tenure ended today.

Diri was sworn in by the state Chief Judge, Justice Kate Abiri.

Following pockets of violence, the Police in Bayelsa have imposed a three-day dusk to dawn curfew in the state.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Uche Anozia, announced the curfew during a press briefing on Friday.

Anozia, who briefed the press alongside heads of other security agencies in the Government House, Yenagoa, said the curfew would begin on Friday and end on Sunday.

He said the curfew would hold between 8 pm and 6 am during the period.

Anozia further said that the decision followed the violent protests that rocked the state capital on Friday morning when the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the November 2019, Douye Diri, was issued a Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

He warned that anyone who violated the curfew would be arrested and prosecuted
