Buhari sent the list for senate confirmation as replacement for ministers that resigned to run for elections.

President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the Senate seeking the confirmation of seven ministerial nominees.
The nominees are: Henry Ikechukwu – Abia State, Umana Okon Umana – Akwa-Ibom State; Ekuma Joseph – Ebonyi State; Goodluck Nana Obia – Imo State; Umar Ibrahim Yakub – Kano State; Ademola Adewole Adegorioye – Ondo State; Odo Udi – Rivers State.
The exercise followed the exit of former senators who resigned their appointments in the build-up to the June 8, All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential and other primary elections.
The erstwhile ministers included Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu (Science and Technology), from Ebonyi, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba (Minister of State, Education) Imo, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi (Transportation), from Rivers and Uche Ogah from Abia.
The Senate has, however, not fixed a date yet for the screening exercise.

In another development, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has nominated Senator Philip Aduda as the new minority leader to fill the vacant seat created by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe’s defection.
Abaribe who represents Abia South in the senate, had sought to run for the governorship of the state on the ticket of the PDP but was frustrated out of the contest by the governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu.
Completely schemed out of the race, Abaribe pulled out of the competition and resigned his membership of the PDP. He moved into the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), where he is expected to slug it out with Governor Ikpeazu, the PDP candidate, for the senatorial slot of the zone. With his exit from PDP, Abaribe ceased to be the Senate Minority Leader.
The PDP also nominated Senator Chukwuka Utazi as the new senate minority whip. Utazi represents Enugu North (Nsukka Zone) in the National Assembly
