No fewer than 300 schoolgirls have been abducted from the Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State by armed bandits on Friday February 26, 2021.

The bandits stormed the school, located along the major road linking Zamfara and Sokoto states, in the early hours of Friday and had a field day before whisking the girls away.

The attack was confirmed by a teacher in the school, who spoke to BBC Hausa service.

The state government and the police were yet to react on the incident at the time of this report.

Recall that Zamfara in Northwest Nigeria is one of the states most hit by bandits’ attacks. In 2020, the bandits also attacked Government Girls Secondary School, Moriki (along Shinkafi and Gusau road) and abducted many girls and their teachers.

The attacks have continued despite negotiations initiated by the state government with the bandits.

The latest attack on the Zamfara school occured about two weeks after over 42 students were abducted by armed bandits from a school in Niger State. The students in Niger were yet to be released at the time of this report.
