An Appeal Court sitting in Lagos State on Tuesday affirmed that Governor, Siminalayi Fubara was duly elected as governor of Rivers State.

The judges also dismissed the petition brought by Tonye-Cole of the All Progressives Congress against the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate in the March 18 governorship election.

Tonye-Cole wanted the Appeal Court to direct the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare him the winner of the governorship election.

He had told the court that Fubara was still signing documents as Accountant-General of the State even after his nomination as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party.

He also alleged irregularities in the election, among other issues.

The Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal had in October dismissed the petition, saying that the All Progressives Congress that sponsored Tonye-Cole had withdrawn the petition against Fubara’s victory.

Tonye-Cole, who was not satisfied with the Tribunal’s judgment, approached the appellate court, which has now affirmed the ruling of the election tribunal.
