Kwara State governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has said that breach of the ban on interstate travels has increased the case of COVID-19 in the state.
Abdulrazaq who spoke with newsmen when he visited the isolation centre of the state at the Sobi Specialist Hospital in Ilorin said there was influx of people to the state from Lagos and North West despite the ban on interstate travels
He said that 11 of the index cases at the isolation centres are travellers from the two zones intercepted by security operatives deployed to enforce the ban.
The governor who was at the isolation centre to monitor health personnel’s compliance with safety protocols however expressed delight that residents in the state abide by the recently relaxed lockdown order to check community transmission of the pandemic.
He said this prevented the state from witnessing increase in the case of the COVID-19 beyond the rate being recorded.
Adbulrazaq said the government would continue to mount surveillance to prevent travellers from other states from gaining entrance into the state.
The governor who commended the security agencies for rising to the occasion urged them to do more in order to stop the spread of the disease in the state.
The team leader of the front line doctors treating COVID-19 patients in the state, Dr Lambe Oladeji, while also speaking, expressed satisfaction with the personal protection equipment (PPE) provided for them by the state government.
Lambe assured the governor of the commitment of the team to giving COVID-19 patients the best care.
