Nigerian singer, Divine Ikubor, better known as Rema on Monday appealed to the striking  Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off the lingering strike that has prevented him from commencing his university degree.

TheNiche earlier reported that Rema had announced to his fans in January that he gained admission to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and that despite his fame, his mother insisted on him obtaining a University degree.

The 21-year-old singer took to Twitter to lament that despite getting admission into UNILAG, he is yet to start attending classes because of the ASUU strike.

Reacting to his post, another Nigerian higher institution, Bowen University, located at Iwo in Osun State, gave him an open invitation to switch to their school and assured him of uninterrupted academic sessions.

The invitation sent via a tweet from the school’s official Twitter handle read, “ASUU can’t delay you if you’re enrolled in Bowen University.”

Responding to Bowen’s ‘open invitation’, Rema said he is fascinated by the school’s interest in him, labeling the institution ‘Unilag private university’.

“Unilag private university don dey Toast me o, I’m blushing omg stop it,” he replied,

Bowen University is a private Baptist Christian Nigerian university owned and operated by the Nigerian Baptist Convention with over 4,500 students and 10,000 alumni.

ASUU began a one-month warning strike on February 14th and extended it by another two months, over the alleged failure of the government to fulfill the agreement they signed in 2009.

The lingering strike has now crossed the 60-day mark, leaving Nigerian students vulnerable as they sit at home, waiting for an end to the strike.
