A roadside blast hit a convoy of Somali government troops on Tuesday as they were travelling in a village on the outskirts of Mogadishu, reports say.
Lower Shabelle Mayor, Abdulkadir Sidi, said the bomb that inflicted injuries on the troops targeted a convoy of government troops at Hawa Abdi.
“There are casualties, among them government troops who were in a convoy but we are trying to establish more details,” Sidi said.
“I heard a huge explosion from the scene, and government forces closed the road immediately,” local resident, Fardowsa Ugas, said.
No one has claimed responsibility, but Al-Shabaab, which is fighting against the government forces, has carried out similar attacks in the past.
