A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Bode George, has clarified that the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara is the leader of the party in the state.

He made this known on Monday, while discussing recent political events in Rivers State on Channels Television’s programme ‘Politics Today’.

According to him, the incumbent governor needs the support of everyone in the PDP to succeed.

He also called for reconciliation between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, adding that his main interest is seeing peace reign in the oil-rich state again.

George added that he is not going to take sides with anybody but will only want justice, equity and fairness in the politics of Rivers State.

He also explained that he and other members of the PDP’s Board of Trustees had attempted to reconcile Wike and Fubara.

Speaking during the interview, George said, “Justice is, who is the leader of the party in the state? It is not the minister, it is this governor.

“So, we have to stand by him – the beauty of it is he stated categorically that he wasn’t leaving the party and then they carried out this election.

“I spoke with the chairman of the board of trustees and then made an attempt with a group of BOT members to visit Fubara to listen to his side and then after I spoke with Wike that he should give an appointment that we are coming to see him.”

TheNiche had earlier reported that Saturday’s local government election outcome in Rivers State created political tension in the state.

Yet to be identified arsonists burnt some local government secretariats, while some of the newly elected local government officials were prevented some resuming their duties.
