Former military governor and chieftain of the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has expressed optimism that his party will bounce back despite its setback during the 2023 general election.
He made this known recently, while addressing PDP’s general assembly in Lagos, vowing that the party will regain its glory days.
Internal wrangling within the party led to its crack, after the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, named former governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election.

His decision eventually led to the formation of the G-5 governors, led by former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
The group along with some other party chieftains then demanded the resignation of the former party’s national chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.
According to them, the call for Ayu’s removal was to achieve a “regional balance” since he and Atiku were both from the north.
However, Atiku stood his ground and the resulting infighting led to the defeat of the party both in the presidential and national assembly elections.
George, speaking on the development, while addressing party faithful in Lagos, said efforts would be put in place to move PDP forward.
He added that despite what happened during the 2023 elections, PDP members should remain steadfast as they would not be allowed to go into extinction.
He said: “I urge you all, who have been faithful, to remain steadfast; we would ensure that the party regains its lost glory.”
Bode George further assured that, in due course, the national leadership of the party would conduct a “thorough post-mortem to resolve all issues that affected the party.”
