The Community Health Registration Board of Nigeria has commenced the screening of community health workers in Nasarawa state.
The Leader of the screening team from the board headquarters in Abuja, Mr Nwokpor Samson, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Nasarawa, Nasarawa state, on Wednesday.
Nwokpor explained that the exercise was aimed curbing the activities of quack medical practitioners in the country.
However, he said that the screening was not aimed at witching hunting any health practitioner, but to sanitise the health system.
“We are here in Nasarawa to embark on intensive screening of community health workers in order to checkmate the activities of quack medical practitioners in the state so as to sanitise the entire health sector for the benefit of all.
“We are not here to witchhunt any health community worker but we are here to screen all community health workers; that is why the exercise is tagged `Operation show your certificates and license of practice’ in order to tackle quackery in the sector.
“As we are all aware that the activities of quacks in the health sector has affected the lives of so many Nigerians and the socio-economic development of the country negatively, hence the need for all hands to be on deck in order to tackle it for the good of all.
“This exercise will last for four days in the state which will take place in the screening centres of Nasarawa, Keffi, Akwanga and Lafia local government areas of the state in order to make sure that all community health practitioners present their certificates and licences of practices,’’ he said.
While commending members for their cooperation, Nwokpor urged them not to relent in their efforts in ensuring quality service delivery to the people at the grassroots.
He restated the commitment of the board to initiate more health policies to save human lives and called on the people of the state to support members of the association to enable them succeed.
Besides, he commended the Federal Government for its sustained efforts in improving the standard of living Nigerians through the provision of sound good health services.
The Chairman, Nasarawa state chapter of the association, Mr Abubakar Lulu, called on members to embrace the exercise in order to tackle quackery in the state.
“I want to call on the members of this association to avail themselves for the screening which is aimed at sensitising the practitioners,” Lulu urged. (NAN)
