A pastor with the Redeem Christian Church of God ( RCCG)and peoples Democratic party chieftain, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has called on well meaning individuals in the society to donate blood to save lives.
Pastor Ize-Iyamu made the call when he mobilised over one hundred of his friends to donate blood at National Blood Transfusion Service in Benin City yesterday.
He said the motivation behind the donation was to give back to society as “blood is life”.
According to him, last week which marks the World Blood Donors Day, there was a call on people to donate blood and heeding to the appeal and the fact that this falls on the month of my birthday, “I decided to donate blood and at the same time mobilised a lot of my friends to also donate their blood”.
Besides, he said as part of the ceremony marking his birthday cerebration this Sunday, the politician of PDP extraction visited the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in the state where various food items, clothes,shoes and detergents were donated to the immates.
He also disclosed that there would be a church service to mark his birthday on Sunday which also is his wife’s birtheday.
Asked if the donations have no political undertone given the fact that the 2016 governorship election in the state is just around the corner, the former Secretary to State Government to former Governor Lucky Igbinedion, said this is not the first time he was making donations of this nature.
He recalled that when he celebrated his 50th birthday, a lot of people accompanied him to the state own Stella Obasanjo Hospital and some schools where he gave out gift items to the needy because he feels it does not make sense to celebrate a birthday without given something back to society.
His words: “This is not the first time I am doing this. In my 50th birthday a lot of people accompany me to Stella Obasanjo Hospital and some schools where I made donations to the needy. I believe it does not make sense to celebrate a birthday without giving anything back to the society. I believe there is need to reachout to the less privileged”.
However, he said those who want to read political meaning to the donations are always free to do so as according him, “I am a politician”.
