The Black Stars became the first big team to be dumped out of the African Cup of Nations ongoing in Cameroon, after losing their final Group C game 2-3 against Comoros Island.

With the victory against Ghana, Comoros have now won a Nations Cup game for the first time as the debutants shocked the Black Stars, who suffered a humiliating group-stage exit from the tournament.

El Fardou Ben Nabouhane opened the scoring for the islanders as early as the 4th minute, when he was put through on goal by Ibroihim Youssouf, to make it 1-0 to Comoros.

Ghana then went down to 10 men in the 25th minute when Andre Ayew was shown a straight red card for a foul on the goalkeeper.

Ahmed Mogni doubled Comoros’ lead in the 62nd minute after an assist from El Fardou Ben Nabouhane.

The Black Stars fought back to make it 2-2, through goals from Richmond Boakye and Alexander Djiku in the 64th and 77th minutes respectively.

However, Ahmed Mogni tapped in his brace and Comoros’ third goal in the 85th minute to go back 3-2 up and inflict Ghanas’ first group-stage exit since 2006.

The result means Ghana are out of the competition after finishing bottom of the group, while the 132nd ranked Comoros now have a chance to reach the knockout stages as one of four best-ranked third-placed sides.
