Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Matthew Kukah, has dissociated himself from a report going viral on social media where he is alleged to have made comments about Biafra.

Director of Department of Social Communication, Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Revd. Fr. Pascal Sa’idu, released a rebuttal on behalf of Kukah to the media on Tuesday.

It reads, “There is a spurious and untitled piece credited to me about Biafra that is enjoying wide circulation on the social media and the cyberspace. I have nothing to do with it.”

Kukah enjoined the general public to disregard the piece on Biafra in its entirety.

In 2021, a viral statement on Biafra and the imminent collapse of Nigeria was credited to Kukah.

The statement was titled ‘Another Bombardment to d Nigeria state by fearless catholic clergy Bishop Matthew Kukah’.

It was not the first time such a statement had been credited to him. It dates back to 2017 when the clergyman first issued a rebuttal.

The rebuttal read, “Here is a disclaimer for notice of the general public. There is a spurious and untitled piece credited to me about Biafra which is enjoying wide circulation on social media. I have nothing to do with it.”
