Biography of Agbede, who replaced Herbert Wigwe after copter crash

Bolaji Agbede, whom Access Bank announced on Monday its acting Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), has more than 30 years experience in the banking industry, 21 of which she has spent in this bank.
Following the death in a helicopter crash of Herbert Wigwe on February 9, Agbede was named his acting replacement pending confirmation by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Below are 11 things to know about her professional background which provide a round picture of her as she becomes the latest to join the growing number of top female bank executives in Nigeria.

1. Obtained a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and statistics from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) in 1990.
2. Started her banking career at Guaranty Trust Bank in 1992.
3. Climbed to a managerial position and became Chief Executive Officer at JKG Limited, a business consulting firm, in 2003.
4. Obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Cranfield University in 2002.
5. Is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management United Kingdom and Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria.
6. Began work at Access Bank in 2003 as an Assistant General Manager in charge of chemical trading companies.
7. Served as Access Bank Head, Group Human Resources between 2010 and 2022.
8. Became the bank’s most senior founding Executive Director in Business Support in 2022.
9. Has spent 21 years at Access Bank.
10. Is a versatile professional with over 27 years of experience in Human Resources management, customer relationship management, and banking operations.
11. Has a proven record of successful people integration during mergers and acquisitions, culture transformation, and execution of corporate strategies.
