The United States President, Joe Biden, has announced that he will be running for re-election as president of the US in 2024.
The American leader made the pronouncement on Tuesday, the day marking the fourth anniversary of his first successful presidential bid on April 25, 2019.
With the announcement, he automatically becomes the frontrunner in a race that could feature his predecessor and Republican opponent, Donald Trump.
Biden, who marked his 80 years birthday last November having been born on November 20, 1942, still enjoys majority support of Democrats who are keen to retain power, according to a recent poll.
But his ratings generally are currently low amid concerns over health and age, as he is currently the oldest person to hold the office.

The US president, who tagged his campaign: “Let’s finish the job”
while announcing the launch of his campaign for his re-election, wrote on his verified Twitter page: “Every generation has a moment where they have had to stand up for democracy. To stand up for their fundamental freedoms. I believe this is ours.
“That’s why I’m running for reelection as President of the United States. Join us. Let’s finish the job.”
Prior to Biden’s announcement, Donald Trump had publicly declared his presidential bid for 2024 in New Hampshire and South Carolina, during his first campaign appearance.
He said, “Together we will complete the unfinished business of making America great again,” he told a gathering in Columbia where he introduced his leadership team.
“I’m more angry now and I’m more committed now than I ever was”
The former president was, however, indicted by a Manhattan grand jury in March, making him the first ex-U.S. President to be formally accused.
