The Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema claimed the 2022 Ballon d’Or in Paris on Monday after a remarkable 2021-22 season for both club and country.
This is the 34-year-old striker’s first Ballon d’Or and Benzema’s prize is thoroughly deserved after a season that saw him cement his status as one of the best forwards of his generation, and a Real Madrid icon.
He had never finished inside the top three in previous years, but he finished today ahead of Kevin De Bruyne, Sadio Mane and Robert Lewandoski.

He won three trophies over the course of the campaign, including a La Liga and UEFA Champions League (UCL) trophies, while he was also instrumental in France winning the UEFA Nations League.
A leader through both his weight of personality and his on-field performances, Benzema was, in the end, the run-away winner in the Ballon d’Or vote.
The award was presented by former Real Madrid coach, Zinedine Zidane at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France and the event was anchored by Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba.
The striker while speaking after winning the award began by offering words of thanks and cites Zizou and Ronaldo as inspirations.
