Bayelsa State government has assured the Peremabiri community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of government’s protection and support.

Governor Douye Diri, gave the assurance in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, on Monday.

The governor was reacting to the invasion of the community by yet to be identified gunmen, who looted and destroyed properties on Sunday.

The Sunday attack was the second time in about a week.

The residence of a known repentant militant leader was also reportedly torched in the attack.

Governor Diri, however, disclosed that the government had commenced investigation into the attack and would unravel those behind it.

He said that he had directed the suspension of recognition of any chief or leader in the community pending the conclusion of investigation into the crisis.

Governor Diri also urged the residents to be calm as he ordered the security agencies to ensure adequate protection for everyone in the community.

Meanwhile, peace has returned to the Peremabiri community.
