Bauchi Police arrest three suspected rapists, charge 42 other suspects to court

Three suspected rapists have been arrested by the Bauchi State police command for allegedly kidnapping and repeatedly raping a 20-year-old lady.

This was disclosed on Thursday in Bauchi by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Kamal Datti Abubakar, while parading the three suspects who are also members of the notorious political gang called Sarasuka.

The names of the suspects are Abbas Usman alias Gero, 18, Shamsudeen Adamu alias Duna, 18 and Gdado Mohammed Yayayo, 18.

The PPRO  said the victim, Hauwa Suleiman, of Nupawa ward in Bauchi Metropolis, was kidnaped by the suspects on her way home after closing from work on October 4, at about 10:00 pm.

He said “Four men on motorcycle abducted her and took her to an uncompleted  building  along airport road, robbed her of her Gionee handset, and her handbag containing the sum of N8,000.00 and other valuables and the suspects raped her repeatedly.”

One of the suspects, Abbas Usman, confessed that three of them took turns to rape the suspect after holding a sharp cutlass to her neck.

Usman said, “I knew the girl well. I had asked her out on two occasions but she rejected my overtures. She was walking with another girl and a boy. After she parted with the boy and the girl, we used the opportunity to kidnap her and took her to a room in an uncompleted building where three of us raped her. She was shouting and we ran away.”

The Police spokesman also disclosed that after a month, precisely on November 4, due to intensified effort by the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the suspects were arrested on their way to disrupt a wedding in Bauchi Metropolis.

Abubalar said that two sharp cutlasses, two sharp knives, criminal charms were among exhibits recovered from the suspected rapists.

In the same vein, Abubakar disclosed that the police had charged 42 suspects to court in connection with the reported cases of extra-judicial killings of innocent people in Ganjuwa , Wariji, Ningi and Darazo local government areas by the notorious Babeli group.

He said that seven people were convicted in connection with the killings by suspected Babeli members, 35 are awaiting trial, while exhibits recovered include four single barrel guns, 11 Dane guns, 10 gun powder pallets, 35 Cartridges and 10 motorcycles.

He also disclosed that the command’s Anti-kidnapping Unit on October 18, gunned down a suspected kidnapper, Buba Manu, who had been terrorising the residents of Lema Burra forest area.

He said that Buba Manu was involved in the kidnap and killing of three female hostages in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state in September.

According to Abubakar, the police recovered one revolver gun, two live cartridges, Gionee handset suspected to be used for ransom negotiation while others escaped.
