Bauchi State government has on Thursday pledged to join President Muhammadu Buhari in the fight against corruption in the country.
The pledge was made by the state governor, Mohammed Abubakar, during a solidarity march organized by the state chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).
According to the governor, who was represented by his deputy, Malam Nuhu Gidado, the country has been dwarfed of its true potential by the greed of a few who have been in the saddle in the last 16 years.
He said because of corruption, communities have been left without basic services, and unwholesome abuse of processes, powers, laws and public resources were recorded.
Gidado, however, said that the coming into office of a President who is holding the country’s truest mandate since independence, would tackle the deep rooted culture of corruption and impunity.
He said the approach of the state government on the matter was that, right from its initial days in office, it showed an unalloyed determination to restore the system of governance devoid of the ills of corruption.
“We took a deliberate and painstaking action to recover resources of government carted away by individuals that have previously held public offices in the state”.
Earlier, the Acting Chairman, NLC state chapter, Danjuma Sale said they were at the government house to deliver a solidarity message in acceptance of the good works started by President Buhari.
He said it was a rally against corruption, which was jointly organized by NLC/TUC, adding that the Nigerian workers were following with keen interest, the recent negative comments by some unpatriotic elements on the President.
“Nigerian workers have followed with keen interest the recent comments by some unpatriotic elements in the country who did not mean well for the nation.
“…those who want business to continue as usual, trying to sabotage and discourage the President from pursuing his covenant with the electorates”.
Sale added that the Nigerian workers and the organized labour would resist any attempt from any quarters to scuttle the President’s stance against corruption and impunity. (NAN)
