Bauchi govt distributes N118m food stuff

The Bauchi State government has distributed food items worth N118 million to Physically Challenged Persons in the state.

Presenting the donation to the beneficiaries, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Alhaji Bashir Uba Mashema explained that the gesture was part of their activities to bring succour to the less-privileged especially in this month of Ramadan.

According to him, the Ministry of Social Welfare was established to render charity services and provide monetary and other assistance to the less-privileged in the state, adding that the food stuffs donated include 313 bags of rice, 210 bags of millet, 210 bags of sugar and 177 cartons of pick milk.

He said that the beneficiaries were also given 452 rolls of wrappers, 411 yards of cotton ‘shaddah’ and token some of money even as he noted that the items were distributed through the mosques’ committees and associations of the disabled persons for easy sharing.

The permanent secretary therefore warned the mosques’ committees and officials of the associations against diversion of the food stuffs at the detriment of the beneficiaries, stressing that anybody found wanting would not be condoned by the government.
