Bauchi governor frees 22 prisoners

The Bauchi State Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, has granted freedom to 22 prison inmates in the state.

The governor who stated this in a broadcast  in Bauchi yesterday as part of activities marking 56th Independnece anniversary.

Abubakar explained that the freedom granted the prison inmates was to enable them be part of the 56th Independence Anniversary celebration.

His words: “As we celebrate the 56th anniversary of the independence of Nigeria I have pardoned 22 inmates from the prisons across the state so that they will be carried along to celebrate the anniversary.”

Abubakar urged Nigerians to see the current hardship in the face of the recession in the country as temporary, which they would soon overcome, noting that recession was a global phenomenon and called on the people to continue to make sacrifice for a greater tomorrow.

“We shall however continue to take palliative measures with a view to cushioning the effect of the hardship on the people. I will however use this opportunity to call on all of us to continue to make sacrifice to ensure that we put our country on the path of greatness.”

According to the governor, “the country would move out of the recession as soon as we put our acts together,” calling on the people to rededicate themselves to Nigeria, be patriotic and pray for God’s blessings on the country.

He disclosed that his administration has made protection of lives and property of the people a priority with a view to ensuring that the state is safe for all, adding that “this makes the state one of the safest in the North-East sub-region, which is bedeviled with the activities of insurgents.”

According to the governor, peaceful atmosphere of the state has made it possible for a good number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to take refuge in the state where they were received with open arms by the people of the state.
