Elsie Okpocha, the former wife of popular stand-up comedian, Bright Elsie Okpocha a.k.a Basketmouth has offered advice to women, urging them to make sure they are ready for marriage before tying the knot.

On December 22, 2022, Basketmouth took to social media to announce that he had separated from his wife, Elsie after 12 years of marriage.

In a now-deleted post, the comic actor wrote, “As much as it pains me to bring my personal life to the public space, this is an unavoidable situation. After much deliberations, my wife and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage,”

Taking to her Instagram page on Friday, Elsie encouraged women not to rush into marriage because of societal pressure, as it might come back to bite them.

The mother of three, who described marriage as “tough”, said those who succumb to pressure are likely to rush out of the union.

She wrote, “You need to understand that if a woman is not married, it’s because she is probably taking her time or she hasn’t met the right person because you do not want to rush into this institution called marriage in the name of wanting to get married on time and end up rushing out because marriage can be tough,”

“As beautiful as it is, marriage is hard work. If a woman decides that she is not ready yet, you need to let her be. Stop with the derogatory remarks.” Elsie added.

Bright and Elsie tied the knot in 2010, but the marriage which produced three lovely children ended last year.
