Bank customers’ BVN registration: 4 Days To Go

CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele

With four days to the expiry of the October 31 deadline of the Biometrics Verification Number (BVN) registration of all bank customers, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has listed the advantages of the exercise, urging Nigerians to key into the policy formulated to check money laundering and fraudulent transactions in the banking sector.

Mr Ibrahim Mu’azu, Director, Corporate Communications of CBN, addressing stakeholders at a two-day CBN sensitisation fair in Akure, Ondo State capital at the weekend, said further delay should not be the character and the way to go for Nigerians with the BVN registration.

Mu’azu was represented by Mr Babatunde Ogunlaja, an assistant director, who noted that CBN has been kind enough to extend the date for BVN registration.

Mu’azu said the apex bank places much emphasis on safety of bank customers’ money that is why the bank introduced BVN to tackle the issue of money laundering in the country.

He called on all bank customers, who are yet to register for their BVN to do so before the expiry of the deadline, saying there is no need for people to wait until the last day before they go for the registration.

On the purpose of the CBN fair, Mu’azu said the apex bank was in the state to enlighten members of the public on the need to key into the policy of the bank.

“Some people are complaining about our policy and not enjoying our programmes. Even at all if they have challenges with this programme, they should know where to go.

“We have been doing some things and we want to do them better, so we want to hear from them. Most importantly, we want to educate our people about some of our programmes like offering loans, speaking to the rights of customers, positive services that banks are supposed to render to customers and lots more.”

The event held at the B.T.O hall in Akure, had in attendance farmers, government officials, representatives and members of different cooperative societies, deposit money bankers, micro-finance operators, physically challenged people who are willing to start Small and Medium scale business, SMEs operators, representatives of the student community.

The forum discussed issues about payment system Vision (PSV 2020), mobile payments, agent banking, E-payment incentives, BVN and cashless Nigeria.
