Ayu dragged PDP into Sodom, ‘nothing much could have changed,’ Sani adds

Iyorchia Ayu’s leadership style took the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the place of iniquity to the place of unrighteousness, both of which are sin, Shehu Sani has said, in reaction to the eventual downfall of the former PDP National Chairman.

“Ayu met the party in the City of Sodom and tried his possible best and led it to the desert of Gomorrah,” the former Senator tweeted on Wednesday, per Tribune reporting.

In The Bible, both Sodom and Gomorrah were citadels of sin God destroyed (Genesis 19:1-26) because He could not find even 10 righteous people in them (Genesis 18:20-32).

“The fact is that even if Ayu had stepped down before the election, nothing much could have changed; because those opposed to him were also struggling to survive and at the end couldn’t help themselves much,” Sani added.

Ayu, who had been in a running battle with the PDP G5 led by Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike, stepped down on Tuesday and was immediately replaced with Deputy National Chairman Umar Damagum.

Ayu quit in obedience to a court ruling and his suspension by his local ward in Benue.

However, Damagum is a Northerner who does not satisfy the agitation of the G5 that the post be rotated to the South as written in the PDP constitution – failure of which made them refuse to support Atiku Abubakar in his presidential run.

Other members of the G5 are Governors Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu).

The executive committee of Ayu’s Igyorov Ward in Gboko Council in Benue suspended him from the PDP on Sunday over alleged anti-party activities and failure to pay his party dues.

And on Monday, a Benue State High Court restrained him “from parading himself as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) having lost membership of the party, pending the hearing and determination of Motion on Notice already filed.”

The ruling was based on an exparte motion filed by Conrad Utaan.

‘You see how God works?’, Wike rubs it in on Ayu

Wike on Tuesday celebrated news of Ayu’s removal at the commissioning of the Trans-Kalabari Road Phase 1, Degema Council in Rivers.

“You see how God works? All those people who were plotting evil against us, they are now the ones suffering it,” he said, according to Tribune.
