Ayra Starr apologises after shaking hands with King Sunny Ade

Ayra Starr blamed her action on the lights at the event and nerve, saying she came back to greet everyone properly

Popular Nigerian singer, Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe better known as Ayra Starr has tendered a public apology to legendary musician, King Sunny Ade following the backlash that greeted the way she greeted him at a recent event.

Nigerians who saw a trending video of the encounter between the duo had taken to the comment section of the post to blast Ayra Starr for disrespecting King Sunny Ade and Burna Boy’s mother.

In the now viral video, the ‘Love Don’t Cost A Dime’ crooner snubbed Burna Boy’s mother as she greeted a woman sitting beside her and went on to shake hands with Sunny Ade while exchanging pleasantries.

Her decision to shake hands with the living legend and ignore Burna Boy’s mum earned her backlash from netizens after the clip made it’s way to social media. 

Taking to her X handle, now Twitter, on Saturday morning, the songstress tendered a public apology and explained what transpired.

Speaking via her social media page, Ayra Starr tweeted: “I’m so sorry, I had just walked in and all the lights and nerves did not let me see but I came back to greet everyone properly.

” I have never been that girl to be disrespectful, I’m a proper Yoruba girl and the video didn’t start until after I had greeted Burna’s mom! I’m very sorry to the legend, uncle and King Sunny Ade.”
