Ayew merited red card like Casimero, says Ten Hag

Ten Hag argued Ayew did worse than Casemiro who received a red card for grabbing Will Hughes around the throat during a mass brawl at Old Trafford

Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag has argued Crystal Palace forward, Jordan Ayew, should have been given the matching order during a Premier League clash between the two Red Devils and the Eagles on Saturday.

Goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford ensured Man United defeated Palace as Jeffrey Schlupp’s goal was not enough to give the visitors a point.

Manchester United midfielder, Casemiro received a red card for grabbing Will Hughes around the throat during a mass brawl during the encounter at Old Trafford.

However, Ten Hag has insisted Palace striker, Ayew who struck Man United midfielder, Fred, in a similar fashion during an altercation that was not reviewed by VAR did worse than Casimero.

Asked specifically about whether Ayew, who also appeared to have his hands around Fred’s throat, could have seen red, Ten Hag said at his post-match press conference:

“You bring it up, but that was one of the players who did even worse, I would say, than Casemiro!

“Casemiro, you freeze the moment, I think really short, he is crossing the line there. But yeah, Ayew definitely [was red too].”
