.FRSC arrests 172 traffic offenders

Two persons have been confirmed dead and five others injured in a motor accident which occurred at a Military Check point along Bauchi-Jos expressway.
It was gathered that the accident involved a Vectra commercial vehicle with registration number, AE 587XA, and a trailer with registration number, BMA 956 DPK.
Eyewitness said that the accident occurred as the car lost control and rammed into a trailer at the military check point.
Confirming the incident, Paul Gua, the Bauchi Sector Head of Operations of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), said that seven persons were inside the car, adding that out of which two were killed instantly as a result of the impact of the collision.
He explained that the car, which was coming from Jos to Bauchi, lost control and veered off the road, colliding with the trailer trying to manoeuver its way out of the military check point.
He disclosed that the corpses of the victims had been deposited at the mortuary in the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, while the survivors are also receiving treatment.
He said, “The driver of the Vectra and one passenger at the back seat died instantly. The accident would have been avoided if only the driver waited for the trailer, which was coming out of the checkpoint, but he ran into the trailer when it was not his turn to pass.”

Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Bauchi State Command, has disclosed that it arrested 172 traffic offenders in the state.
The Sector Head of Operations, Bauchi Command, Paul Gua, disclosed this in his office in Bauchi.
He said that five mobile courts had been established at different locations in the state.
“The arrest of the traffic offenders were made from December 20, 2017 to January 15, 2018.
The locations in which the mobile courts were established include Toro council, Darazo, Bara town, near Gombe State, Alkaleri and Bauchi.
“The traffic offences include making of phone calls while driving, over-speeding, overloading, using of warn-out tyres among others. Out of the 178 traffic offenders, 165 had been convicted by the state judicial commission while seven persons were discharged and acquitted” he said.
He said that the FRSC in the state during the period had conducted six motor park rallies, six radio programmes and one TV programme aimed at enlightening the public on traffic rules and regulations.
He further disclosed that the commission was working to achieve its strategic goals for the year 2018 which include enhanced communication and social media technology, improvement on FRSC law enforcement and rescue service, enhanced professionalism, promotion of businesses and stakeholders cooperation.
