Six doctors from the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) have died in a ghastly accident on their way to take part in the 56th annual general conference and delegates’ meeting in Sokoto, Premium Times reports. The auto crash happened about 60 kilometres to Kaduna, after the rear tyre of the bus of the state chapter of the association busted on motion. The bus transported about 14 passengers. The driver was said to have slammed the brake after the incident, leading to the bus somersaulting. Peter Ogunnubi, the public relations officer of the Lagos state chapter of the organisation, told Premium Times that the affected officials took off from Ekiti State on their way to Sokoto State. “Six of them are already dead,” he said. Names of the affected doctors are yet to be disclosed. The association is the largest medical organisation in the West African sub-region with over 40,000 members from 36 states and the branch from the federal capital territory with about 19,000 in Diaspora. 70% of doctors practice in urban areas where only 30% of the population resides.
