Attack on Owo Church, unspeakable evil — Osinbajo

Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has described the attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State as an “unspeakable evil” and condemnable in all ramifications.

Osinbajo, who stated this at the church on Monday, said his visit was to commiserate with the Church, the people of Owo and the state on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“This is a horrible tragedy and I do not think anyone will wish this for their worst adversary.

“These (the perpetrators) are animals who have behaved in such a way that is shocking, and the most depraved way,” he said.

According to the Vice President, the attack is a sore in the heart of every Nigerian, and the perpetrators of the attack do not represent Nigeria in any way.

He added that President Buhari has ordered a full-scale investigation, and that the attackers would be apprehended.

Osinbajo commended the attitude, calmness and courage of the people of the community and the Church, adding that the Federal Government was encouraged and pleased by this.

Meanwhile, a presidential aspirant, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has promised to donate N75 million to both the victims and St Francis Catholic Church, Owo.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu said this when he accompanied Tinubu to the
Palace of Olowo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye, during a condolence visit.

Akeredolu said Tinubu has promised to donate N50 million to the victims and another N25 million to the Owo Catholic Church.

Tinubu who condemned the attack on innocent worshippers, promised to work with Akeredolu to bring succour to the victims

Describing the attack as an evil that must be defeated, the former Lagos State governor said “there is no place for such hatred and wanton taking of innocent lives” in our country.

Tinubu lamented that the South-West had never witnessed such an attack of such magnitude saying it was horrendous.

He called on federal and state governments to work together to strengthen the security around the country.

Responding, Akeredolu, thanked Tinubu for pausing his presidential campaign activities less than 24 hours before the APC convention.

The governor vowed to either bring the assailants down to the state for justice or take justice to them.
