Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has penned a moving tribute to foremost Constitutional lawyer and erstwhile Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, Professor Ben Nwabueze, who died on Monday, October 30.

Atiku, in a post on X the same day of Nwabueze’s passing, said the news came to him as a rude shock.

Sharing the post with a photograph he took with Nwabueze when the legal icon gave him a warm embrace, Atiku said: “Needless to say, Professor Nwabueze and I shared a refreshing bond.

“He was a fine scholar who carried himself with excellence and had an avuncular mien. Notably, he served as the Chairman of the Igbo Leaders of Thought, a role that further underscored his dedication and commitment to his people and the nation at large.

“Through the enterprise of his intellectual acumen, Professor Nwabueze has added appreciable benefits to the growth of constitutionalism not just in Nigeria but globally.

“I fondly recall my encounter with him in 2018 in Enugu State, where he reminded me of the unfinished Nigerian project.
