The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate in the 2019 general election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and his deputy, Mr. Peter Obi, have condemned the armed bandits’ attack on Benue State Governor, Mr. Samuel Ortom, at the weekend.

In separate tweets, they called for a rejig of the nation’s security architecture and a constitutional framework that empowers the states to control their internal security.

Atiku, in his twitter handle, @Atiku, lamented that the attack on the governor was worrisome and stands condemned.

He also appealed to the Nigerian government to carry out a comprehensive investigation on the issue and fishout the criminals.

He stated: “I hereby call for a thorough investigation into the matter and restate the need for a rejig of the nation’s security architecture and a constitutional framework that empowers the states to control their internal security.”

Also, Obi, in his twitter handle, @PeterObi, stated that the attack on Ortom along Makurdi-Gboko Road, further exposed how precarious the nation’s security situation had become.

“Before Gov Ortom, it was Gov Zulum, leaders of subnational entities. “If our governors can be attacked at will, what then is the plight of ordinary citizens? There’s an urgent need to review our security architecture to stem this drift into a failed nation.”
