The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the November 6, 2021 governorship election in Anambra State, Valentine Ozigbo, has been formally received, today August 23, along his supporters into the Labour Party.
Ozigbo, a business mogul and former Chief Executive Officer of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (TRANSCORP), along with his teeming supporters were accepted into the Labour Party by Julius Abure, the national chairman, at an event in Lagos.
Abure said the Labour Party would gain immensely from Ozigbo in the rescue effort of Nigeria.
Ozigbo, in his reaction, said there is no way Peter Obi would be in the ballot on the platform of the Labour Party and he would be somewhere else.
He said the hope Peter Obi has rekindled in the Nigerian youths has never happened before, adding: “I am very proud not only to be Obidient, but to also be 100 per cent part of this movement.”
Obi, on his part, said the movement is to take back Nigeria and hand it back to Nigerians, just like Brazil that moved from an unproductive and bankrupt economy to the top five food exporters in the world.
“What am saying is that we must move from consumption to production. What you use to measure the wealth of a country is not the natural resources, neither is it space or land mass – It is the productive capacity of the people of that state, especially the youths, what they can produce.
“Netherlands is a country of 33,000 square kilometer without water. If you add water, they are about 43,000 square kilometer. But their total export last year is over $600 billion, out of which agriculture is $120 billion. Our land mass is 923,000. And our export was $33 billion.
“Israel is 22,000 square kilometer of lands. Nigeria is 923,000 square kilometer of land. Israel is 9 million people. Nigeria is 200 million people. But Israel’s export last year was $59.8 billion. So, how can 200 million Nigerians living on 923,000 square kiliometres of land export less? So, Nigeria is not a producing country. Let’s go out and produce,” he said.
The former two-term governor of Anambra state, added: “We cannot get jobs by people thinking they can lead by tribe or religion. God says he blesses those who are hardworking. So, you have to do something for God to bless you. If you go and stay idle and be praying, then you are a magician,” he said.
He said the journey he and his supporters are embarking upon is the rescue of Nigeria. “So, those of you who are joining us, know that this is the journey we are going. We don’t want the policy of sharing money. We want the policy that will make our children live in a better country. We don’t want people to say that their children are in Canada, and they are in Nigeria. Canadians don’t keep their children in Nigeria, their children are in Canada!
“When we were growing up, we lived with our parents. They were seeing us. They were happy with us. Now, parents don’t see their children. Their children have been exported. We used to go to school, come back and meet our parents. Greet them and they are happy with us. But go to many houses now, parents are now living on their own and looking at the wall because their children are not here. And the reason why they are not here is because things are not good here. We want to reverse it. We must sacrifice for the society to work,” he said.
