At 89, Sir Adebutu says passion for grassroots football has no limits, as Latoyen Boys, Smart Queens emerge cup winners

The 14th edition of Sir Kesignton Adebutu football tournament was rounded up on Monday in Lagos at Campus Square mini-Stadium Ajele, as Latoyen FC of Coker, Aguda and Smart Queens Football Club of Mainland emerged champions in male and female categories.

The grassroots football duel witnessed by the cup donor and sponsor, Sir Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu, CON, who marked his 89th birthday Monday said, there would be continuous sponsorship of the grassroots tournament as long as God preserves his life.


He latched on the occasion to thank friends and well wishers who thronged the stadium to celebrate with him.


In a colorful soccer final watched by hundreds of football fans, Latoyen Boys FC of Aguda beat Mighty Touch Football Club of Ajegunle 3-1 at full time.

In the female category, Unstoppable Girls were unlucky as they suffered a 3- 2 defeat against Smart Queens at regulation time


The cup donor who witnessed the grand-finale was happy to have seen this year’s edition in good health and commended the organisers for the job well done.
Secretary of South West Youth Soccer Association, Ganiu Aliu thanked the cup donor for his contribution to the grassroots football development in the state saying that all the finalists played well but noted that the best team won the game.


During the presentation, the finalists received medals and cash prizes from the sponsor. Outstanding players also received cash prizes for their impressive performances throughout the tournament.


Coaches, referees, most valuable players of the tournament received a cash reward for their brilliant effort during the three week long tournament.
Aside the trophy, the winner got N1m, 2nd received N750.000, 3rd N500,000 while 4th placed team got N250,000 male and female winners respectfully
