Asaba 2018: Over 5000 security personnel for Africa Champs, says Nesiama

Over 5000 security personnel will be deployed for the Africa Senior Athletics Championships tagged Asaba 2018 holding between August 1-5 in Asaba.

Director and Head of security of the event, retired Navy Commodore Omatseye Nesiama, said the security personnel would be drawn from the Nigeria Police, NSCDC, DSS, Armed Forces, Traffic control agencies, State and Federal Fire Services, local vigilantes etc.
He also said: “The Personnel would be deployed in Lagos, Abuja, Benin City, Enugu, Owerri and Port Harcourt. These are all expected transit airports to receive international guests coming for the event.”
Nesiama also told TheNiche that preparations are on course to ensure provision of top-notch security that would leave good and  lasting impressions in the minds of all.
“We are involving everyone through sensitization to create appreciable security domain awareness. The locals are already buying into it fully. This is attested to from the courtesy call and sensitization visit we paid to the Palace of the Asagba of Asaba.”
The former AFN technical director informed that his Royal Highness the Asagba and his cabinet members through the Iyase of Asaba, Chief PIG Onyeobi, expressed delight at the security subcommittee’s visit and stated that it is the first formal visit of any kind to inform them of the event and therefore commended the committee for taking a good step in the right direction.
They promised their full cooperation and readiness to support every aspect of the committee’s work to succeed.
They also believed that the success of the event is heavily dependent on the security success. They are hoping that the success will translate to coming in of investors into Asaba after the event, Nesiama said.
Nesiama assured that every security details would be taken care of and all loopholes would be plugged without recourse to protocol. He emphasized that visitors should feel free to come for event without fear of any sort.
