Asaba 2018: Nesiama reads riot act, drills security volunteers

The screening of the Security Stewards, Volunteers for the Asaba 2018 African Senior Athletics Championships enters it’s third phase as volunteers received marching orders on basic discipline.
Security Sub- Committee Chairman, Navy Commodore Omatseye Nesiama (Rtd) and his Committee stated that though participation is basically voluntary, the sensitive nature of the job entails due diligence and processes to be followed for selection of those to serve. I assured applicants that scaling the screening and subsequent security background checks are the first steps to qualifying to serve at the event. The next step would be the generic and site specific training. The build up would then conclude with simulated exercises and the test competition fixed for 18 July being used fine-tune details. I have advised that anyone who has reservations about their ability to cope or has unclean records should own up and honourably withdraw before the tempo catches up with them.
The screening is very essential because the people that should be engaged in the exercise must be physically, psychologically and mentally disposed to their roles in the unit and there are many areas to be covered beyond the venue of events and many of these officers will be assigned to these different areas of concern as may be duly considered.
The essence of the screening is to ensure that there is total security of all persons, properties and information assets before, during and even after the Championships.
