Arteta says Partey in line to play against Leicester

Arteta, however, said the game is too soon for Gabriel Jesus, who has not featured for the Gunners since picking up an injury during the World Cup

Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta has said  Thomas Partey may be fit enough for the Gunners Premier League fixture against Leicester City on Saturday afternoon.

The north London club head into the game top of the table, leading the league champions,  Manchester City by two points and will at least maintain the gap if they win at Leicester.

Partey missed the loss against the Citizens at the Emirates Stadium and the dramatic win against Aston Villa at Villa Park last Saturday due to a muscle injury.

Arteta, while providing an update on Partey’s availability ahead of the Premier League clash against Leicester City this weekend, said though he has not trained much, he has a chance of playing in the encounter.

The Arsenal gaffer, however, said the game is coming too soon for Brazilian striker, Gabriel Jesus, who has not featured for the Gunners since picking up an injury during the World Cup

Speaking in his pre-Leicester press conference on Friday morning, Arteta said: “He [Partey] hasn’t trained much, but it looks like he could be available.”

The Gunners boss then offered yet another update on Gabriel Jesus’ recovery. “He’s progressing well,” Arteta said.

“Doing more and more on the field, the knee is not reacting – so it’s positive. We want him back quickly but respect the timeline from the doctors.”

Gabriel Jesus has offered plenty of his own updates on social media regarding his rehabilitation process after he returned to training on the grass this month.

The Brazilian striker has been a huge hit at the Emirates Stadium since completing a £45million move from City in the summer transfer window.

His return will be a huge boost for Arsenal’s Premier League title and

Europa League ambitions, as they find out their round of 16 opponent today.
