Arteta insists Arsenal are still in EPL title race after 2-1 win over Spurs

Arteta also noted that this season’s English Premier League (EPL) title race has been difficult for every team

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has said the North London club can still win the English Premier League (EPL) title this  season.

He made this known following the Gunner’s 2-1 league win over arch-rivals, Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal suffered another setback when, totally against the run of play, Son Heung-min’s shot was deflected off William Saliba past keeper David Raya after 25 minutes.

The response came from a familiar route, Gabriel rising to meet Declan Rice’s corner at the far post five minutes before the interval after Spurs keeper Antonin Kinsky failed to collect, the last touch coming off Dominic Solanke for an own goal.

Arsenal were ahead four minutes later when Leandro Trossard’s bobbling low shot beat Kinsky, who should have done much better.

Mikel Arteta’s side dominated the second half, but once again lacked the cutting edge to completely put the game to bed.

The win over Spurs means Arteta’s side are now four points behind leaders Liverpool. The Reds, meanwhile, have a game in hand.

Asked if Arsenal are in the title race, Arteta answered affirmatively, noting that this season’s Premier League title race has been difficult for every team.

He went on to say there are many games that are yet to be played by the 20 EPL teams

Speaking during his post-match interview, Arteta said: “We are (in the race) because there’s so much to play for, and we can see how difficult it is for every team to win.”

Arsenal’s next Premier League match is against Aston Villa on Saturday.
