Army rescues woman from kidnappers

A middle aged woman, Hadiza Alhaji Gajere, of Yarmalamai ward in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State on Friday night got rescued by the Army, six weeks after she was abducted from her matrimonial home by kidnappers.

The woman was brought to the Secretary to the Government of Katsina State, SGS, Dr. Mustapha Inuwa, around 11:00pm by the Commander, 17 Brigade, Katsina, Brigadier General B. Idris, along with some officers from the National Intelligence Agency who intercepted Hadiza Garba in Gusau, Zamfara State.

Receiving the kidnapped victim on behalf of the Katsina State Government, the SGS, said the government was worried with the recent incessant attacks by bandits in some parts of the state.

He urged the people to be more patient and not lose confidence on security agents as government at all levels were doing their best to end the nefarious activities of the bandits.

He further instructed that the woman be reunited with her family and thanked the officers who facilitated her release.

Narrating her ordeal to newsmen, Garba said on the fateful day, five men each armed with AK-47 riffle stormed her house at Unguwar Bajida village of Yarmalamai ward and took her hostage in the presence of her husband.

She further disclosed that she spent 42 days in the bandit’s camp because her family was unable to meet their demand for N5 million ransom.

She said: ‘’One lady and three other victims whom we met at the bandit’s camp were all released some weeks ago, after their families paid the ransom’’.

   “I was left with only one bandit to guard us and luckily, the guy fell into a deep sleep which gave us the opportunity to escape.”
