The 81 Division, Nigerian Army has said it is probing the video trending on social media of a soldier engaged in a fight with a policeman in Apongbon, Lagos Island.

It was gathered that a driver was taking a soldier to a location in the state on Wednesday when he drove against the flow of traffic and was stopped by officers from the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offenses (Enforcement) Unit, also known as Task Force, for breaking the state’s traffic laws.

The soldier was said to have gotten out of the car and questioned the officers for stopping his vehicle. He reportedly tried to disarm one officer in the process.

Soon, the soldier was exchanging blows with a policeman.

The matter was, however, prevented from escalating by some other policemen and soldiers.

Director of Press and Public Affairs for the Task Force, Raheem Gbadeyanka, said the car has been seized.

A statement issued on Thursday in Lagos by the 81 Division spokesman, Lt.-Col. Olaniyi Osoba, said the Army division had commenced investigation into the incident.

“We are looking into the matter to fully ascertain what transpired and will get those involved and investigate the matter.

“Thereafter, necessary action will be taken,” Osoba said.
