Army goes after criminals, combs forests in Bauchi

The 33 Artillery Brigade Bauchi has embarked on aggressive clearance and search of forests to flush out suspected criminals in the state.

The Commandant of the Brigade, Birgadier Abraham Luka Dusu, disclosed this, while addressing journalists in Lame Forest Thursday.

He explained that the clearance of‎ forest was in line with Chief of Army Staff directive to get rid of all criminals in the surrounding forests in the state.

According to him, “‎following the information we received that people carrying guns have been sighted in the forest or migrated to the state from sambisa forest by the ongoing operations, we are going to enter all the forests in the state with adequate troops. There are reports of bandits, ‎kidnappers and cattle rustlers”.

Dusu said that the operations would be conducted in forests across the state ‎that include Lame, Yankari, Balmore and Burra forest, which are so thick. It will be cleared by troops of the Brigade.”

He charged the locals and the local vigilante groups to remain and report any suspected case or movement of criminals to the authorities.

He said that the operation was continuous and will be extended to other forests in the state.
