Army General Uwem Harold Udokwere was killed in his Abuja residence by suspected armed robbers early Saturday morning, say police

A retired Brigadier General of the Nigerian Army, Uwem Harold Udokwere, has been killed in his Abuja home.

Udokwere was said to have been murdered in the early hours of Saturday, June 22, at his Sunshine Homes Estate in the Federal Capital Territory.

The killers suspected to be armed robbers attacked the Sunshine Homes Estate at about 3am according to the FCT police.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) said it has launched a manhunt for the killers.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ben Igweh, ordered immediate and discreet investigation into circumstances surrounding the killing.

FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said in a statement on Saturday night that, “In response to the tragic and unprecedented attack at Sunshine Homes Estate by armed robbers, resulting in the untimely demise of Brigadier General Uwem Harold Udokwere (rtd.) on June 22, 2024, at approximately 03:00 am, the commissioner of police, FCT, CP Ben Igweh has promptly ordered a thorough and discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding this regrettable event.”

The statement said CP Igweh has also expressed profound condolences to the bereaved family and assured them and the public of swift justice for the murderers.

The police chief said every effort will be made to ensure that the perpetrators of the atrocious act were apprehended and brought to justice.

Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the unflinching commitment of the FCT Police Command to amplify the security landscape of the nation’s capital, by continually adapting strategies to effectively combat evolving criminal activities.

This latest killing further underscores the precarious security situation in the FCT.
