Arms deal: Dokpesi remains in EFCC custody till Dec. 14

Raymond Dokpesi

Justice Gabriel Kolawole of Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, founder of DAAR Communications Plc, be remanded in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commissions (EFCC) till Dec 14 when ruling on his application for bail will be delivered.

The judge, who heard the motion for his bail Thursday said that the ruling could not be immediately delivered because the process filed by the Federal Government and Dokpesi’s lawyer got to him the same day in open court.

He said he needed time to go through the submissions of counsel in the matter to enable him arrive at a just conclusion.

He ordered that the accused should remain in the custody of the EFCC pending his ruling on the motion for bail next week.

Earlier, while arguing the bail application, Chief Mike Ozhkhome (SAN) told the court that the offence with which Dokpesi is standing trial was ordinarily bailable in law because it was not a capital offence.

He said that Dokpesi has not in any way contributed to any act of insurgency and that he would not jump bail when granted. Ozekhome also told the court that his client was billed to travel abroad for medical check-up when he was invited by the EFCC for questioning.
