Arinze, Emelonye, other potters storm Moorehouse with Vision in Clay

Potters in Town in partnership with Weave & Co Gallery presents the ‘Vision in Clay’ (VIC) exhibition of unique potteries and ceramics sculptures featuring Circle of Potters and Ceramics Artists, a new group for artists who work with Clay.
The exhibition opens on Saturday, August 5 by 4pm at Moorehouse Hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos. It will run until August 17.
The exhibiting artists include Chinenye Emelogu, a ceramist, who won the 2012 National Art Competition (NAC); May Okafor, an installation and ceramics artist; Nathalie Djakou Kassi, who has a degree in ceramics and is from Cameroon; Afam Okwudili, who specialises in exotic pieces of vases, Chris Klay Ekuafeh, Sheriff Ojekunle and Ato Arinze.
Arinze, is a Nigerian artist, says his thoughts, concept and feelings are influenced by nature and events. He is the co-founder and coordinator of one of the most popular art groups in Lagos – Artzero Group.
The shape and forms of each work, the artist said, depends solely on his vision as inspired by activities around him and world news.
With over 20 years of studio practice as a ceramics sculptor, his love for the clay medium and perfection in handling the material has endeared him to art patrons. He has organised and facilitated many seminars and workshops on creativity, art business, pottery and sculpture. He is a sculpture graduate from the Art and Design Department, Yaba College of Technology in 1991.
Born in the 1966, he hails from Onitsha in Anambra State, and has participated in several exhibitions both within and outside the country with his work well represented in private and public collections.
In 2002, he received the Solidra Award for Sculpture and Pottery, and in 2008, he was honoured by the Society of Nigerian Artists with the SNA Distinguished Artist Award.
