An All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) women’s leader, Favour Nworah, has been reportedly relieved of her position for supporting the Labour Party (LP) in the state Assembly election on March 18.
The candidate she supported is her husband.
Nworah, APGA women’s leader in Ebenebe community in Awka South Council in Anambra and Women President-General of Ebenebe Town Union, Women Wing (ETU WW), was accused of wearing the vest of the LP and attending its rallies.
Her firing has sparked protest in the community as women have taken to the streets calling for her reinstatement.
Florence Nnatu who led one of the protests at the weekend, alleged some community leaders masterminded the conflict that has now divided women in the area.
“We are calling on our community leaders, our husbands, who have hands in this crisis that is dividing their wives to remove their hands from it,” Nnatu said.

Nworah confirms supporting her husband, an LP candidate
Nworah told journalists she supported her husband, an LP candidate for the Anambra House of Assembly, according to reporting by Daily Post.
“I supported LP and the House of Assembly candidate, Onwuje, because he is my husband and always by my side. APGA candidate never called me even once, talk less of coming to me as his woman PG, even though I am from the same ward as him,” she explained.
“I remain an APGA member, and I worked for APGA and [Governor Charles] Soludo during the 2021 governorship elections.
“I couldn’t sleep because I know what I did for APGA and Soludo. I used my money, my products, my strength and time for my party APGA to make sure Soludo won. I visited all the wards in Awka North to make sure women’s votes counted.”
It was learnt Anambra Women Affairs Commissioner Ify Obinabo has appointed Josephine Okafor to replace Nworah as women’s leader.
Nworah was elected in 2019 for a four-year term and was yet to complete her term before she was removed from office.
Obinabo declined to comment on the matter.
