Anambra State governorship election om Saturday, November 18, 2017, was peaceful contrary to earlier apprehension that it would be marred by violence or outright boycott.  Security however was tight in most of the polling units in Awka, the state capital, and neighbouring communities. TheNiche correspondent, who is monitoring the poll, also added that the voter turn out was not as low as had been feared earlier.

“There is no issue so far. Voting commenced early in most of the units in Awka. The atmosphere was cool with security personnel taking position in strategic places. Only those with voter’s cards were allowed access to polling units. It was a success story so far “, he stated.

There had been concerns on the poll taking place against the backdrop of campaign by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra  (IPOB) on the electorate to shun the exercise.
